MTC - Week Three

President and Sister Teng with Sister Scharman, Sister Menzie, Sister C and Sister A

Hey!

So this week we lost the other district in our zone, and I'm so sad. We became so close and now it feels empty without them! But we found out we are getting 19 new people today!! What! 8 elders and 11 sisters, and as sister training leader I have to interview all of them so I can report back to President Teng, I'm going to be super busy. So fun!! I am super excited to meet them tonight! I get to show them around the MTC like a tour guide, but the problem is I still get lost a lil and I've been here three weeks. We also had another sister move into our room, her name is Sister Money. She was here in the MTC before but had to go home to get surgery. Now she is back! Her, Sister Clawson and Sister Apsley are now in a three some. She seems nice, I've known her for about a solid hour. Last night we stayed up till 11:30 (I know breaking rules but the lord knows we were doing service) we decorated all the new girls doors with dresses we made out of paper. Origami is a fun activity here in the mtc haha

Sister Menzie and I have taught 11 lessons in the past week, no wonder they call it a training center. We had TRC for the first time on saturday. (that's where we meet with real members and teach them) besides my mandarin being bad, it went pretty good! the first guy we taught knew my aunt, so yeah fun. When we were teaching Amin (one of our investigators) about families and how they can be together forever we showed her pictures of our families. She loved it! She commented on how tall Ryan was, that made me think about how tall Tyler is going to get when I'm gone and that makes me sad.

We became friends with the Cantonese District, there is one super short asian elder that gives us a pile of candy everyday hahah he is so cute. And he gives us good candy. Also he cheers me on while I'm running around the track at gym time. What a nice guy.

The funniest compliment that I got this week was from Elder Oreno, he said.. "you are a super cool sister! I bet you're even cooler as a person!!" HAHAHA thanks?

Before Sister Hickenlooper and Sister Bradley left yesterday we had a little party in their room with brownies and cookies. Sister Teng, our branch president's wife, came and partied with us. She is the CUTEST little asian lady I have ever met. She is from Taiwan, even though she's lived here in the US for a long time she still has some troubles with english. She is so funny, and President Teng just sits there and laughs at her.

I love all my teachers, especially my main teacher Li Laoshi we have some that just come in our class and
President and Sister Teng with their Zone
sit there like Brother Dodge, and Brother Liao. They just sit there and laugh at me, (not just when I'm speaking chinese) apparently I'm pretty funny.

The funniest thing that has happened this week was Sister Apsleys calf cramp.. we all went to bed only to be woken up 45 minutes later by her screaming "OW OW OW OW" it sounded like she was dying seriously. Sister Clawson said she was having a calf cramp so she said "grab your big toe and stretch out your leg and massage it out!" after a second the "ows" stopped. and Sister Apsley said "how did that even work?" then was dead asleep again. The next morning after breakfast we asked her if her leg felt better. Sister Apsley literally looked at us like we were insane. SHE DIDN'T REMEMBER hahahah
this is probably one of those times where you had to be there to make it funny. She does lots of weird things in her sleep btw

Only 6 more weeks in the mtc!!!!!

Love,

MTC - Second Week

Elder Lyman shares his care package

hey guys!! Im alive!

Okay so me and Sister Menzie got called as sister training leaders!! if you don't know what that is, we are over all the sisters in our zone, which isn't many because two sisters are leaving next week, but then we are getting more!! We don't know how many yet. But i'm super excited!! Everyday seems to be blending in together. I cant believe I'm starting my third week!
Today we had the first worldwide missionary broadcast! It was like general conference for missionaries basically. Its super cool to think that every missionary around the world was watching it too at different times. We heard from three apostles! Super uplifting!

Our first investigator accepted our invitation to get baptized which is fun! We have two new investigators this week, which ended up being my two teachers hahah we hadn't practiced a door approach yet and well there were some positives but mostly negatives lol I had planned out this whole lesson and learned how to say it, but I never reviewed how to start a conversation at the door so yeah good thing it was my teacher. Our second lesson with our other teacher was hilarious, she was pretending to be married to another teacher and when we asked what their babys name was they looked at each other and said "baby" It probably doesn't that funny but it was okay.

Chinese is coming, slowly but surely.

I finally got a dr pepper, seriously a highlight of my week. shout out to Elder Lyman for it. Feel free to send me some if you want ;) it might help me get passed that 3 pm mark where I feel like I'm dying hahaha. Good thing my companion and most of my district are dr pepper lovers.

I have 7 more weeks in the mtc so my emails will probably be boring and not interesting until I get to Taiwan.

There is not much to say since we do about the same thing everyday, but I do want to say that the church is true!

MTC - First Week

First PDay

Hey guys!!

I've officially been in the mtc for a week! how crazy is that? It all just feels like one long continuous day. But I am doing so good!! as you know, or would have guessed, the language is really hard. I am the only one in my district that hasn't had a history with Mandarin Chinese, one Elder even lived in Taiwan for two years. But it's okay!! They are all awesome and they help me a lot. My district is so fun and we all get along super well. My companion is Sister Menzie and she's from Boston. I also love the other sisters, Sister Clawson and Sister Apsley. It's like they are all my companions because we do everything together. I'm blessed with the best! Anyway, the language. I am lots better then when I came 7 days ago so that's good. I know that my district, zone, teachers, family, and my other loved ones believe in me. And most importantly our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ believe in me. So I know I can do it! Just gotta rely on the lord!
MTC Breakfast

On the third day of being here, we already had to teach an investigator in alllllll Chinese. Good thing shes actually already a member and teaches Chinese. so basically what I do is write what I want to say in English, then I translate it into Chinese and practice saying it. but the only problem is that I cant understand her hahaha so if she asks me a question or anything I don't know what to do and it's just awkward. I did teach her how to pray and I know how to pray in all Chinese without having to use a paper so I loved doing it. she committed to pray by herself but when I invited her to church she said no. (i only knew she said no because I wrote down some possible answers on the paper and no was one of them lol)
Lehi Sisters and Elder

Me and Emma aren't even in the same zone. Weird right? I see her often though. I've also seen Hayden, Kenya, Taylor Reece, Jacob Rawle, and an Elder from my institute class at eastern.
Sunday Temple Walk and Sing

My district thinks I'm popular because I am "always talking to someone and I have so many friends here" if only they knew I was actually a loser lol.

Sundays are the best days!!!!! since we are always in class and never get to be outside except while walking to our classes, I get really excited about our temple walk. We go to the hill behind the temple and we sing hymns with our zone. We sing them in Chinese most of the time, and for a couple of songs, we did half of us singing English and the other Chinese. Super cool! Devotionals here are amazing and the one on Sunday was especially good! We had a devotional last night as well, and it wasn't just a regular one. It was broadcasted to every mtc! Elder Anderson from the quorum of the twelve spoke! his wife also spoke and she was so cute.

I'm getting sick of the food here. So when I got to go to the temple this morning is was soooo nice to eat breakfast there.

GUYS I LOVE ASIANS THEY ARE SO CUTE AND I HAVE THE CUTEST ASIAN FRIENDS HERE, I don't love them romantically obviously. Only in like I want to hug them cause they are so cute and nice type of way. Me and Sister Apsley seriously just lose it when we see our friends from Korea THEY ARE SO CUTE

I know this is long. I am not even going to say all that I want to because of time. but I'm gonna end here real soon.

My sister shared this quote with me before I left.
"We have moments in life that call upon us to demonstrate courage to say what we really mean and do what we really believe is the right thing to do. even when it is really really difficult these moments are not accidents. they are moments when you are being tapped on the shoulder by God."

I know that this church is true. I know this is where I'm supposed to be. Even though the days are long, nights are sometimes hard, language is difficult and I'm missing loved ones, I can be happy, and I am happy!!! I love this gospel and I'm grateful for this opportunity to share it with others. I want to make this the best experience that I can, so I'm going to give it my all and not get discouraged. love you all! Thank you for all the support!

Love, Sister Scharman!
