I've officially been in the mtc for a week! how crazy is that? It all just feels like one long continuous day. But I am doing so good!! as you know, or would have guessed, the language is really hard. I am the only one in my district that hasn't had a history with Mandarin Chinese, one Elder even lived in Taiwan for two years. But it's okay!! They are all awesome and they help me a lot. My district is so fun and we all get along super well. My companion is Sister Menzie and she's from Boston. I also love the other sisters, Sister Clawson and Sister Apsley. It's like they are all my companions because we do everything together. I'm blessed with the best! Anyway, the language. I am lots better then when I came 7 days ago so that's good. I know that my district, zone, teachers, family, and my other loved ones believe in me. And most importantly our Heavenly Father and our Savior Jesus Christ believe in me. So I know I can do it! Just gotta rely on the lord!
On the third day of being here, we already had to teach an investigator in alllllll Chinese. Good thing shes actually already a member and teaches Chinese. so basically what I do is write what I want to say in English, then I translate it into Chinese and practice saying it. but the only problem is that I cant understand her hahaha so if she asks me a question or anything I don't know what to do and it's just awkward. I did teach her how to pray and I know how to pray in all Chinese without having to use a paper so I loved doing it. she committed to pray by herself but when I invited her to church she said no. (i only knew she said no because I wrote down some possible answers on the paper and no was one of them lol)
Me and Emma aren't even in the same zone. Weird right? I see her often though. I've also seen Hayden, Kenya, Taylor Reece, Jacob Rawle, and an Elder from my institute class at eastern.
Sunday Temple Walk and Sing |
My district thinks I'm popular because I am "always talking to someone and I have so many friends here" if only they knew I was actually a loser lol.
Sundays are the best days!!!!! since we are always in class and never get to be outside except while walking to our classes, I get really excited about our temple walk. We go to the hill behind the temple and we sing hymns with our zone. We sing them in Chinese most of the time, and for a couple of songs, we did half of us singing English and the other Chinese. Super cool! Devotionals here are amazing and the one on Sunday was especially good! We had a devotional last night as well, and it wasn't just a regular one. It was broadcasted to every mtc! Elder Anderson from the quorum of the twelve spoke! his wife also spoke and she was so cute.
I'm getting sick of the food here. So when I got to go to the temple this morning is was soooo nice to eat breakfast there.
GUYS I LOVE ASIANS THEY ARE SO CUTE AND I HAVE THE CUTEST ASIAN FRIENDS HERE, I don't love them romantically obviously. Only in like I want to hug them cause they are so cute and nice type of way. Me and Sister Apsley seriously just lose it when we see our friends from Korea THEY ARE SO CUTE
I know this is long. I am not even going to say all that I want to because of time. but I'm gonna end here real soon.
My sister shared this quote with me before I left.
"We have moments in life that call upon us to demonstrate courage to say what we really mean and do what we really believe is the right thing to do. even when it is really really difficult these moments are not accidents. they are moments when you are being tapped on the shoulder by God."
I know that this church is true. I know this is where I'm supposed to be. Even though the days are long, nights are sometimes hard, language is difficult and I'm missing loved ones, I can be happy, and I am happy!!! I love this gospel and I'm grateful for this opportunity to share it with others. I want to make this the best experience that I can, so I'm going to give it my all and not get discouraged. love you all! Thank you for all the support!
Love, Sister Scharman!
